Planet Fitness

First of all I have no problems with planet fitness, it is a good place to get a workout at your own pace without any issues. I signed up and it served its purpose. i eventually upgraded to the Black membership as at the time I needed the ability to workout in different locations. Yesterday i went to cancel my membership as I do not need it anymore since my office and apartment complex both have gyms that I have easy access to. The associate was very rude does not seem to have any customer service training. I asked to cancel my membership and his first answer was that i could not cancel it. i asked him why and he told me that i had not been a black member for up to a year and would need to pay about $50 to cancel. I told him that I was not informed of the one year limit when I signed up an he told me that was impossible, insinuating that i was lying. I decided that i would let the one year expire then cancel. I then asked why i could not cancel membership over the phone and he said it was due to security issues (which is total BS because he could not explain, how that protects me as a customer). Finally I said what if I move out of state and he said that was not his concern and I would have to travel whatever distance to cancel my membership. Again it is decent clean environment and I enjoyed my time using the facility. this review is directed at the customer service or lack there of that I received on 4/8/2018 from the guy at the front desk, unfortunately I did not get his name and I was in a hurry so i did not ask for a supervisor. Hopefully the issue with the Black Card gets fixed as I am basically paying for a service that i do not need, and If I paid for the Black card for the convenience of working out at any facility then i should have the ability of canceling over the phone or at least at the closest planet fitness to me.
